Born and raised in the small town of Buena, NJ, Amerika Sutton is one of seven children. Her passion for music began at the age of 5, and she is influenced by her great uncle Little Chester Grier, who played for the likes of James Brown and Aretha Franklin.
Being that her mother was a minister, secular music was not allowed in the house. Her mother would even call her work “noise” and refused to nurture her talents. Despite her mother’s beliefs, Amerika used every opportunity to teach herself to play the piano. She even played the trumpet and sang in her high school choir to develop her range; soprano to tenor. She fell in love with the oldies at a young age and has a warm place in her heart for her memories of riding with her father and jamming to the Oldies.
Amerika ran away from home at the age of 16, and never stopped working. Determined to succeed, she finished high school and graduated college. Amerika kept dreaming and today the dream is a reality. She believed in herself and never gave up.
Amerika’s noise became music. Her voice became an instrument of love and passion to this world. As a recording artist, songwriter and producer, Amerika Sutton has worked with some of the most celebrated figures such as Mariah Carey, Y.G, T-Boz(TLC), Donelle Jones, Mary J, Bobby V, Carlos Mckinney (Usher, J. Holiday), Solovision (Britney Spears), Carl Breeding, Eric Cire, Chris Henderson (Jamie Fox), Freeway, Renard, Sean Carter, The Gentlemen and Mike Cash.
